The reason we always recommend that you use the Sole Plate is is, that for even the smaller projects you are not exposed to the dust that evolves. Naturally the prerequisite is that a suitable vacuum has connected to the Sole Plate. The other job that the Sole Plate does for you is to ensure that the work you do is consistent. It simply makes it impossible to go too deep if you have set it to the desired level before you start.
The joints are too hard for a Mortar Rake
It is well known that the joints on building can have uneven hardness. The cause is often repairs done at some point in time. Some buildings are simply build with a harder mortar than normal. Mortar Rakes do not do too well in concrete hard joints, men this is where the Diamond Tuckpointing Blade really shines. The problem being the vertical joints, as the Diamond Tuckpointing Blade is not suited for those. As the Mortar Rake can be used in concrete hard joints, but not at a desirable pace, you can advantageously use a Diamond Tuckpointing Blade for the horizontal joints and a Mortar Rake for the vertical joints and simply mount them on two different angle grinders.
Why use a Mortar Rake?
The Mortar Rakes and the Mortar Rake Units has the advantage, as opposed to the Diamond Tuckpointing Blade, that they are very easy to control. Their rotation is never higher than even the most unskilled worker does not have to worry about destroying the brick work if said worker applies commmon sense and takes it easy to begin with. Futhermore a Mortar Rake is sublime at raking out the vertical joints, which is far more difficult, boarder lining the impossible, with a Diamond Tuckpointing Blade.
